Accounting

BKD, LLP Endowed Accounting Scholarship

Baird, Kurtz, and Dobson, a regional public accounting firm, established the Baird, Kurtz, and Dobson Endowed Accounting Scholarship with Drury. This fund provides scholarships, support for expense supplements, and other items and services that augment the educational opportunities available in the field of accounting at Drury.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Must be an Accounting student.

Architecture

A.C. "Deac" Esterly Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Esterly, Schneider & Associates and Mrs. Marcella Esterly as a memorial for Deac Esterly, an architect.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Award to freshman wishing to major in architecture
  • Scholarship will continue throughout 5 yrs, provided he/she continues as architecture major Must maintain 2.75 as a freshman and 3.0 thereafter

H.S.A. Butt Joint Glazier Endowed Architecture Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the HSA class of 1994 to help 5th year students that are required foreign study in architecture.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Financial need

Roger G. Killian Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Killian Construction Company and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Killian in memory of their son, Roger G. Killian. Roger graduated from Drury in 1972 with a major in psychology.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Preference for a student studying Architecture
  • If not, to any deserving student

Pella Window and Door Company Endowed Scholarship

The Pella Window and Door Company provides scholarships to the students studying in the Hammons School of Architecture in order for them to travel abroad, which is a part of their required five year study plan.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Architecture student for foreign study

Art

Karen Boyle Endowed Art Scholarship

This scholarship was established by memorial donations and Jim and Marilyn Boyle in memory of their daughter, Karen. Karen studied extensively in Art.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Must be an Art student.
  • Must maintain a 2.0 minimum GPA.

Leila Bennett Freeman Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Flavius and Frances Freeman in honor of Flavius's mother, Leila Bennett Freeman. Leila was very interested in the field of art. She made a gift to Drury of the original mosaic "Epic of Creation," which was installed on the first floor of Lay, when it was still the Science Building.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student majoring in art

Suzanne Schellhardt George Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by her husband, Joseph H. George. Sue was a graduate of Drury class of 1947.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Students in Fine Arts
  • Given on merit rather than financial needs
  • Prefer student in studio arts, painting or sculpting

Dabbs Greer Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established with a trust through the estate of R. William “Dabbs” Greer, an actor of many movies and who played the minister on “Little House on the Prairie”. Dabbs graduated from Drury in 1939 with a major in English.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Students in financial need interested in any of the "arts"

Mary Jane Pool Endowed DAA Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mary Jane Pool in 1980 when she received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Drury. Mary Jane graduated from Drury in 1946 with a major in fine arts. She has been a member of the Drury Board of Trustees since 1972.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • First priority for student studying art/art history

Mary Ellen "Molly" Thompson Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. Walter and Mrs. Juanita Thompson in memory of their daughter, Molly. Molly attended Drury and was very involved in the art department
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Preference to an art student

Edythe West Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dorothy Doering in honor of Edythe West. Edythe graduated Drury in 1955 with a Masters in Education. She taught Art for many years at Drury.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • First preference: art major
  • Second preference: humanities major
  • Same GPA as other academic scholarships
  • Award to freshman and carry through 4 years

Breech School of Business

John R. "Jack" Buckner Endowed Memorial Scholarship

 This scholarship was established in 1994 by memorial donations and Jo Ann Brown Buckner in memory of her husband. Jack graduated Drury in 1950 with a major in English. Jo Ann is also Class of 1950.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Business student

Virginia C. Bussey Endowed Breech Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Virginia Cox Bussey. Virginia graduated from Drury in 1955 with a major in business administration and in 1967 she received her MBA from Drury. Virginia also served as a member of the Drury Board of Trustees from 1998 to 2006.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Senior woman in the Breech School of Business

Frank R. Carter Endowed Scholarship

Elizabeth Thomas Carter, class of 1959, graduated with a degree in Sociology from Drury. She established this scholarship in memory of her husband Frank. Restrictions for the scholarship: Students who are sophomores or above.
First preference:

  • Students who major in business and have a finance emphasis
  • Second preference: students who are elementary teacher candidates

Milton Chamberlin Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Milton Chamberlin and the company he worked for at the time, Syntex Agri-Business. Milt graduated from Drury in 1954 with a major in economics.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Students studying in business or economics

Wilbur L. Gay Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Wilbur Gay who attended Drury in 1957.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student studying Economics

Dr. Charles Mercer Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Mercer was a faculty member at Drury in the Breech School of Business from 1962 to 1994. This scholarship was established through memorial donations from friends and former students.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Must be a student in the Breech School of Business program

Connie Jean Meyer Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Ken and Jane Meyer in memory of their daughter, Connie Jean Meyer.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Freshmen are not eligible
  • Students with higher than average scholastic standing
  • Students studying communications, business administration, music, or physical education

Earl Nau Endowed Breech Scholarship

The Earl K. Nau Scholarship was established by the memorial donations used to support the Drury MBA program. Earl Nau received his MBA from the Breech School of Business in 1967. His two sons Eric and Kris also received MBAs from the Breech School in 1992 and 1996, respectively. 
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • First priority: MBA student employed in banking but receiving no corporate financial support.
  • Second priority: MBA student receiving no other financial support.
  • Third priority: MBA student with financial need. 
  • Fourth priority: junior or senior with emphasis in banking or finance.

Walter Pettit, Sr. Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by W. Frank Pettit, Ruth Pettit Sigmon, and Walter S. Pettit, Jr. in memory of their father, Walter Pettit, Sr. Walter served as a member of the Drury Board of Trustees and held the positions of Chairman of the board's finance committee and treasurer for more than 35 years. All of Walter's children graduated from Drury. He thought very highly of the Drury institution and was very involved in helping needy students.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Awarded as a prize, not financial aid
  • Given to the outstanding junior student in business administration
  • Student must have a minimum ACT of 26 and a high school GPA of 3.6 or better
  • Student must maintain a 2.75 GPA during the freshman year and a 3.0 GPA thereafter

Clifton E. Rowden Endowed Trustee Scholarship

This Trustee Scholarship was established by Clifton E. Rowden through a trust that Drury received at his death. Mr. Rowden graduated from Drury in 1937.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • To provide a full tuition scholarship for a student studying in the Breech School of Business
  • Or several recipients may be selected for partial tuition scholarships

Stevens Junior Achievement Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Arthur Stevens. He served as a member of the Drury Board of Trustees from 1974 to 1984.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • First preference: to junior achievement students from Kansas City
  • Second: any junior achievement student
  • Third: students studying business administration

Dr. W. Curtis Strube Endowed Breech Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor and memory of Dr. W. Curtis Strube. Dr. Strube taught in the Breech School of Business and was Director of the school for many years.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Breech students only

Communications

Dr. Joe P. McAdoo Endowed Scholarship

Dr. Joe McAdoo taught at Drury for 37 years. His career here at Drury was spent in the departments of speech, theatre, and communication. Dr. McAdoo was chair of the communications department for a number of years.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Declared Communication major
  • Awarded at the junior level
  • College GPA of 3.5 and must maintain

Connie Jean Meyer Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Ken and Jane Meyer in memory of their daughter, Connie Jean Meyer.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Freshmen are not eligible
  • Students with higher than average scholastic standing
  • Students studying communications, business administration, music, or physical education

Dr. Robert Wilhoit Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1981 by memorial donations from the class of 1950, former students, and friends. Dr. Wilhoit was a graduate of the 1950 class of Drury with a major in English. He was an Associate Professor of Speech at Drury.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Award to theatre or communications major

Education

Gerald Brooks Endowed Scholarship

Dr. Daniel Beach, who was Director of the School of Education at Drury at the time this scholarship was established, in honor of Gerald Brooks.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Racial minority student
  • ACT of 19 or higher, SAT 900 or above
  • Must major in elementary or secondary education 
  • Must maintain grade point average of 2.5

Frank R. Carter Endowed Scholarship

Elizabeth Thomas Carter, class of 1959, graduated with a degree in Sociology from Drury. She established this scholarship in memory of her husband Frank.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Students who are sophomores or above
  • First preference: students who major in business and have a finance emphasis
  • Second preference: students who are elementary teacher candidates

Dr. Protima Kumar Roy Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1998 by Dr. Protima Kumar Roy, a professor of education, who began her work at Drury in 1987. She started the fund to award scholarships to minority and international students.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • First preference: an undergraduate student attending Drury from the Hem-Sheela Model School, India, majoring in any area of four/five years study at Drury
  • Second preference: to any international or minority undergraduate or graduate student majoring in education
  • Or to any international or minority undergraduate or graduate student majoring in any area of study at Drury

The Thompson Family Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by several members of the Thompson family. Many of the Thompson family members in the greater-Springfield area graduated from Drury, and many are teachers.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • First priority: student majoring in Education who plans to teach
  • Second priority: student with music major and a piano minor
  • Third priority: any deserving student

English

Joan Gilmore Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Joan Gilmore in honor of Dr. Frank Clippinger, her English professor at Drury. Joan graduated Drury in 1951 with a major in English.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student majoring in English

Dr. Richard Mears Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. Harriet Mears in honor of her husband Dr. Richard Mears. Dr. Mears was a professor of English for many years at Drury.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Must be an English major

Janis Rittel Reichardt Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rittel in memory of their daughter, Janis. In 1973, Janis graduated from Drury with a major in English.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Junior or senior English major who continues to maintain a 3.0 GPA

History

Dr. and Mrs. Glenn Harrison Benton Endowed Scholarship

Dr. Glenn Harrison Benton came to Drury as a professor of history in 1921. He served as a dean at Drury as well. This scholarship was established through memorial donations and an estate gift.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Must be a History or Political Science student

John K. Hulston Regional History Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Kitty Cox Lipscomb, Lester "Bud" Cox, and Virginia Cox Bussey in honor of John K. Hulston. The three siblings wanted to honor Mr. Hulston with a scholarship because he wrote a biography of their father, Lester E. Cox.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Students majoring in History with preference given to students with interest in American and Ozarks regional history

Smith-Tillman Endowed History Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1992 by memorial donations and Charles Tillman, for his wife, Mary Betty Smith Tillman and Gladys Smith. Mary graduated from Drury in 1944 with a major in history.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Female majoring in history

Humanities

Edythe West Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dorothy Doering in honor of Edythe West. Edythe graduated Drury in 1955 with a Masters in Education. She taught Art for many years at Drury.

James E. McClure II Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by James and Betty McClure in memory of their son. In 1967, James II graduated from Drury with a major in history.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Financial need
  • Social Science major

Law and Society

Charles M. LeCompte Pre-Law Scholar

This scholarship was established through Mr. LeCompte’s estate gift. He was a 1965 graduate of Drury with a degree in Business Administration.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Pre-law student with a 1st year GPA of 2.75 and 3.0 GPA thereafter
  • Student must live within 50 miles of Springfield

Flavius Bennett Freeman Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Flavius B. Freeman. Dr. Freeman graduated from Drury in 1932 with a major in business administration. He served as a member of the Drury Board of Trustees from 1954 to 1995.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Pre-Law student

Math

Willard Graves Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by memorial donations and Mrs. Winifred Graves. Mr. Graves graduated from Drury in 1933 with a major in mathematics. He later taught at Drury and was head of the mathematics department for nearly 50 years. Mrs. Graves was Drury class of 1934.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Award to upperclassman majoring in science or math

Willard L. Graves Endowed Math Award

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Willard L. Graves, Sr.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student to be chose by the math faculty after student has finished his/her freshman year

Willard Lee Graves and Carol Gevecker Graves Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Willard Graves, Sr. in 1990. Dr. Bud Graves graduated from Drury in 1962 with majors in mathematics and physics.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Preference to first or second year woman majoring in math

W. Bruce and Helen Wiemer James Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Bruce and Sandy James and Judith James Wydick. W. Bruce graduated from Drury in 1929 with a major in mathematics and Helen also graduated in 1929 with a major in music.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Award to freshman/carry for 4 years provided grades are kept up
  • Alternate recipients between math student and music student

Music

Darrell Benne Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship came into existence in 1982. It was established in memory of the long time distinguished Chairman of the Drury Music Department, Darrell Benne.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Must be a sophomore or above
  • Must maintain B average
  • Must make significant contribution to a musical performing group of his/her choice

Grace Mae Brown Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Grace Mae Brown began Drury College in 1913 and majored in voice, piano, and education. She was a graduate of the voice department of Drury College. After completion of her academic program, Grace became supervisor of music in the public schools in Springfield, MO. This endowed scholarship was established by MaryLou and Allan Douglass to honor Grace Mae Brown.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Preference to student from a small town studying piano or voice
  • Must be a music major

Dr. Carroll Childs Endowed Scholarship Fund

Dr. Carroll Childs was a graduate of the class of 1948. He majored in music education.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • For a student's private music lessons
  • Use Drury’s scholarship guidelines

Dr. James and Blanche Findlay Endowed Scholarship

Dr. Findlay came to Drury to serve as president from 1940 to 1964.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student must have a "B" average in high school
  • Award to freshmen
  • Must maintain a "B" average at Drury
  • Must major in music or music education

Beulah Logan Highfill Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1987 by family members. Beulah was a member of the Drury class of 1930.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Music students, preferably voice or piano
  • May be awarded at any class level
  • Award will continue if Drury grade requirements are met

W. Bruce and Helen Wiemer James Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Bruce and Sandy James and Judith James Wydick. W. Bruce graduated from Drury in 1929 with a major in mathematics and Helen also graduated in 1929 with a major in music.

D. Wayne Johnson Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of D. Wayne Johnson. Wayne was a 1950 Drury graduate and a professor in the music department.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Must be awarded to a music student

Wilma Joseph Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. Don Verne Joseph in memory of his wife Wilma. Dr. Joseph taught in the music department at Drury for many years.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Band member or music student

Beulah Logan Highfill Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1987 by family members. Beulah was a member of the Drury class of 1930.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Music students, preferably voice or piano
  • May be awarded at any class level
  • Award will continue if Drury grade requirements are met

This scholarship was established by Patsy Witherspoon Poulos. Patsy graduated from Drury in 1947.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • First priority: pipe organ student
  • Second priority: piano student
  • Third priority: voice student
  • Fourth priority: music student in general
  • Award at freshman level
  • If appropriate grades & continue with their music, receive for 4 years

Nathalie Smith White Endowed Music Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Frances Anne Smith and Tom White in memory of Nathalie Smith White. Frances was Nathalie's mother and Tom was her husband. Nathalie graduated from Drury in 1962 with a degree in music.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • First preference: piano student
  • Second preference: voice-music major

Jason Wright Endowed Memorial Music Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Guy S. Wright in honor of their son, W. Jason Wright. Jason graduated from Drury in 1980 with majors in history and religion.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Students majoring in Music

Paralegal

John "Jack" and Sally Bodlovich Tharp Endowed Paralegal Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Sally Tharp in memory of her husband Jack. Upon Sally’s death, a bequest from her estate was added to the scholarship.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student must be in paralegal program with financial need

Philosophy

Charles and Billie Plumlee Cox Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established through an estate gift. Charles, class of 1941, and Billie, class of 1947, graduated from Drury.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student majoring in philosophy

Physical Education

Connie Jean Meyer Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Ken and Jane Meyer in memory of their daughter, Connie Jean Meyer.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

Poltical Science

Dr. Ruth Bamberger Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by student and friends of Ruth Bamberger upon her retirement from Drury. Dr. Bamberger was a member of the political science department.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student needs to have completed his/her sophomore year with an accumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must be a history and/or political science major
  • Student must have significant financial needs

Dr. and Mrs. Glenn Harrison Benton Endowed Scholarship

Dr. Glenn Harrison Benton came to Drury as a professor of history in 1921. He served as a dean at Drury as well. This scholarship was established through memorial donations and an estate gift.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Must be a History or Political Science student

D. Wright and Hazel Lunsford Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship was established in honor/memory of Lunsford's parents.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • For men and women who have financial needs who are ministerial students or Christian education majors
  • If no such person exists, award to anyone with financial need

Science

Dr. Dallas Anthony and Martha Anne Anthony Bolt Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Martha Anne Anthony Bolt and Dr. Dallas Anthony. Dr. Dallas Anthony was a Drury graduate of 1939; he majored in chemistry. Martha Anne Anthony Bolt was a Drury graduate of 1940; she also majored in chemistry. Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student majoring in chemistry

Edward and Catherine Call Clark Endowed Scholarship

Ed Clark attended Drury College and graduated in 1929 with a BS in Geology. He taught Geology at Drury and soon assumed the position of chairman of the Geology Department. In 1944 he was given the Career Achievement award by Drury College. In the same year, he was appointed Missouri State Geologist. Catherine Call Clark attended Drury College for two years, majoring in home economics.

  • Student majoring in one of the sciences

Dr. Samuel Flavius Freeman Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Flavius Freeman in honor of Flavius’s father, Samuel. He was a long-time medical doctor in Springfield and was president of Springfield Barnes Hospital.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student majoring in pre-medical studies

Willard Graves Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by memorial donations and Mrs. Winifred Graves. Mr. Graves graduated from Drury in 1933 with a major in mathematics. He later taught at Drury and was head of the mathematics department for nearly 50 years. Mrs. Graves was Drury class of 1934.

This fund was established by Mary Hogg Hoffman, Drury class of 1939.

Dr. Otto C. Horst Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. James R. Horst in 1970. Dr. Otto Horst was Dr. James Horst's uncle.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Pre-Med student

Barbara Weeks Kay Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Barbara's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Weeks and her husband, Dr. David Kay. Barbara graduated from Drury in 1966 with a major in biology.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Biology student

Dr. John Esben Kirk Endowed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. Kirk’s son, Paul Kirk, a 1966 Drury graduate.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Recipient(s) must be a U.S. citizen
  • Scholastic excellence not financial need
  • Member of Protestant church
  • Preference given to those of Danish descent
  • Student entering Chemistry, Biology, or medical studies
  • May be renewed if grades are kept up

Dr. William A. Knight Jr. Endowed Pre-Medical Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. William A. Knight Jr. in 1985. Dr. Knight graduated from Drury in 1936 with a major in chemistry. Dr. Knight served as a Drury trustee from 1977-1999.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Scholarship or loan to students admitted into the St. Louis University Scholars' Program

George and Betty Shannon Endowed Pre-Medical Scholarship

This scholarship was established by George and Betty Shannon, both members of the 1946 class at Drury.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Pre-medical

Dr. Joseph and Lucile Weeks Siceluff Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Lucile Weeks Siceluff in memory of her husband, Dr. Joseph G. Siceluff. Dr. Siceluff graduated from Drury in 1930 with a major in biology. Mrs. Siceluff was also the class of 1930 with a major in Home Economics.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Pre-Medical student

Helen Volker Jones Endowed Theatre/Drama Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Eugene V. Jones and Dorsey W. Jones, the children of Helen Volker Jones. Helen graduated from Drury in 1920 with a major in English. She was very active in the theatre department while at Drury.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Can be awarded to a freshman
  • Continue as long as he/she continue academic grades
  • Students studying theatre/drama preferred
  • Must have need of financial aid

Brebner and Elois Walker Endowed Scholarship

Joyce Roberts-Hutchins established this scholarship in honor of her parents. Joyce graduated from Drury in 1983 with a music major. She is a member of the Drury faculty.
Restrictions for the scholarship:

  • Student that will or currently majors or minors in theatre

Dr. Robert Wilhoit Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1981 by memorial donations from the class of 1950, former students, and friends. Dr. Wilhoit was a graduate of the 1950 class of Drury with a major in English. He was an Associate Professor of Speech at Drury.
Restrictions for the scholarship:
